Canola Seed: Pioneer Create Priority Order For Growers

After all the headaches from the last two years seed shortages, Pioneer Seeds are making a change to how they allocate canola orders.

If you’ve sown canola in the past, you might know Pioneer Seeds hold the Clearfield varieties 43Y92, 44Y90, and 45Y91. This season they’re also bringing in 45Y93 – an early flowering, mid-maturing variety with blackleg resistance. They also have the triazine tolerant varieties 44T02 and 45T03.

But back to allocation. Pioneer Seeds are now running a priority order program. Basically, this means that growers will get priority over bulk orders from large companies. Pioneer is doing this to improve the relationship between themselves, growers and resellers. Plus, it gives them a better overview of the market. This way they can improve their decision-making process and better facilitate getting seed to the right place at the right time.

So how is this new system going to work?
Well, it’s pretty simple for you as growers. You contact us as normal with your seed orders for the upcoming season. We then contact Pioneer Seed, advising them of the amount of seed you need and your contact details. From there, Pioneer will send both us and you a confirmation email which contains your individual priority order number. That number tells Pioneer that you’ve got priority over the corporates. Seed is then sent out as normal, and you collect from us. This will help Pioneer get seed to actual growers and not big corporate warehouses.

Does this mean shortages are a thing of the past?
Well, no. But the purpose of the priority system is to make sure seed gets to those who are actually going to plant it rather than sit in a reseller’s shed. On the off chance demand is greater than supply, Pioneer Seeds will contact us, and you direct, and discuss other options and ways to meet your planting requirements.
