Variety in focus;

Mace  – a high yielding replacement for Wyalkatchem but stripe rust resistance only covers the WA (Jackie) strain and it looks to be more susceptible to the VPM strain, and we therefore recommend systemic fungicide treatment (ie Jockey or Intake/Impact). Taller plant height than Wyalkatchem with boron tolerance, MR to stem rust, R to leaf rust and MR-MS to CCN (under reassessment). YLS slightly lower than Wyalkatchem and a day or 2 later in maturity.

Variety Supplement

This year’s edition of our latest varieties review is now out. The biggest changes for 2010 appear to be in the legumes, with the release of several new chickpea and lentil varieties that provide distinct advantages (ie. crop-topping) for existing crop rotations.  Disease pressure in cereals (barley in particular) has meant the performance of new varieties has been as contentious as ever.  Also included are new varieties coming in the pipeline that will provide us with further herbicide options in different situations, assisting resistance management strategies. Enjoy!
